Using Rhubarb For Constipation

Vegetables such as fruits and their juices have healing properties due to the fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals they contain. With constipation, vegetables are an excellent source of minerals and fiber. In addition, there are certain vegetables and their juices that stimulate the colon to work harder.

Benefits of Vegetables

The juices are quickly absorbed into your bloodstream. As a result, your cells are quickly given up nutrients and wash away waste. Juices give you the opportunity to get immediate relief from various ailments such as constipation. The juices enter your colon quickly to cleanse it and perform a peristaltic action.

Eating and drinking vegetables and their juice provide you with minerals and nutrients that make up your blood, tissues, bones, and cells. Minerals make up all the organs in your body. Minerals maintain the pH of your body to the required level. It is a mineral that keeps your body alkaline by changing body acids.

Minerals build up tissues and cells in the wall of your colon so that your colon can perform those functions that prevent constipation.

Keep in mind that some natural recipes for constipation require the consumption of bitter or aromatic vegetable juices. As you will find, some vegetable juices taste good and some do not. Remember that you are dealing with a situation that needs to be cleared up and that drinking is not fun.

As you drink some of these vegetable juices, you may find that you like certain ones and they can be your usual daily or weekly drink.

James A. Duke, Ph.D., in his book, The Green Pharmacy, offers the following remedy for constipation using rhubarb,

Rhubarb has a strong laxative action so it is best to use it with other juices. Here's how to put one together for use with your garden. Mix together three stems of rhubarb, without leaves, 1 cup of fresh apple juice, one-quarter of a peeled lemon, and one teaspoon of honey or maple syrup. This tart drink will help you with constipation. One glass three times a day.

A small amount of this rhubarb drink would be,

Combine three stems of rhubarb, - peeled lemon, a teaspoon of maple syrup, and a cup of live apple juice. You can add more syrup if the taste is too bad. Do not use rhubarb leaves as they contain toxic chemicals.

Use only raw rhubarb because it contains high oxalic acid. Use it sparingly and do not overcook it. Cooking converts organic oxalic acid into inorganic oxalic acid. The body easily absorbs inorganic oxalic and forms crystal deposits on the kidneys and throughout the body.

Do not use rhubarb in case of arthritis or gout.

In other articles, I will be discussing the use of other herbs that provide good relief from constipation.

Cause of Constipation, Remedy, Relief, and Treatment

What Is Constipation?

Constipation is very common that affects people, it affects women more than men. It seems to be more common in women just before menstruation or during pregnancy. It is usually not so bad though, sometimes, complications can occur if the condition is not treated.

What Causes Constipation?

Constipation can be caused by many different factors. Many of these are described below.

The main reason is believed to be dehydration. The stools become firm and thin and the body struggles to excrete them. Lack of fiber also has a similar effect. What happens, though, is that the feces that the body is unable to excrete are stored when it dries even harder and then returns to the colony where it can cause blockage.

Other drugs e.g. painkillers and other types of cough medicines may cause constipation. Taking medical laxatives that relieve symptoms in a short period of time may actually increase the problem as the body becomes more resistant to it over time.

There are also other contributing factors

It does not work

Too much calcium or iron in your diet

Drinking very strong tea or coffee has an abortion effect by making you urinate more often thus dehydrating your body.

The intestinal muscles are not strong enough and this is very common in older people as their muscles throughout the body become weaker.

Recent abdominal surgery may have the effect of weakening your bowel muscles

Anxiety

IBS can be the cause of constipation.

What Are the Symptoms of Constipation?

The symptoms of constipation are as follows.

Abdominal pain and cramps

Feeling bloated

Feeling sick

Change your normal bowel pattern

A headache

Hairy tongue

Loss of food

Fatigue and depression

In the event that you experience any of these conditions and they stay with you for more than a few days, it is important that you see a doctor. Sometimes these symptoms can mean something very bad.

What is the Treatment of Constipation?

Often, the best treatment for constipation is simply to increase the amount of fiber in your diet. That includes many vegetables and grain products. Most of us do not eat enough of these.

Also, increasing the amount of water we drink can help alleviate the symptoms of constipation. Most people do not drink enough. By drinking too much, you can not only relieve the symptoms of constipation, but it will also improve your overall health, making you feel better.

By using more exercise, you can help eliminate constipation. This can be as simple as a 30-minute walk 3 to 4 times a week.

If you are going to take laxatives, it should only be a temporary measure. If you find that you have to take them for a long time, you should probably go to a doctor.
